Here is some basic information on grooming and bathing a Keeshond. When you purchase a Keeshond from Calivale, you will be supplied with detailed diagrams showing you the best way to keep your Keeshond clean and tangle free. GroomingThe Keeshond has a lovely easy to care for double coat. Often people are concerned about the amount of care the Keeshond’s coat will require, but if brushed on a regular basis, you need only to spend a moderate amount of time grooming. Grooming also helps to minimise the problem of loose hair as the Keeshond does drop coat. The Keeshond has a thick downy undercoat and a harsh outer coat, therefore, certain grooming utensils must be used. These tools can be bought from pet shops / warehouses or at your local dog show. The basic tools are as follows:
Grooming should be done in a well lighted area. It should be done on a stable surface. Introduce a new puppy to the grooming routine. A puppy should be taught to stand quietly while you brush it, but always keep initial sessions brief - no more than ten minutes at a time. The puppy should learn to have all parts of its body brushed with minimum fuss. If you use a table for grooming never leave a puppy alone on it as it may jump or slip off. BathingIf thoroughly brushed to the skin once a week, the Keeshond’s coat does not require frequent bathing. During shedding periods, a bath will help to loosen hair for it to be easily removed.
